Kit Harington is an English actor who is best known for his role as Jon Snow in the HBO series Game of Thrones. Prior to Game of Thrones, Harington had small roles in various television series and films. He has also been nominated for several awards for his work on Game of Thrones.
Kit Harington was born Christopher Catesby Harington on 26 December 1986 in Acton, London, to Deborah Jane (Catesby), a former playwright, and David Richard Harington, a businessman. His mother named him after 16th-century British playwright and poet Christopher Marlowe, whose first name was shortened to Kit, a name Harington prefers. He is of English and Scottish descent. His paternal great-grandfather was Sir Richard Harington, the 12th Baronet Harington of Aldingham Hall in Lancashire. Through his paternal grandmother, Lavender Cecilia Denny, Kit is also a descendant of King Edward IV and his mistress Elizabeth Woodville.
Kit Harington's career in acting began with his theater studies at the Central School of Speech and Drama. His first professional role was in the National Theatre production of War Horse. He later made his television debut in an episode of the medical drama Doctors.
Harington's big break came when he was cast as Jon Snow in the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones. The show became a global phenomenon and made Harington a household name. He has since appeared in several films, including Pompeii, Spooks: The Greater Good, and Brimstone. In 2019, he starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Avengers: Endgame. Harington has also done voice work for video games, such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Kingdom Hearts III.
Kit Harington's personal life is just as interesting as his on-screen persona. The actor has been in a relationship with fellow Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie since 2012. The couple got engaged in September 2017 and married in June 2018.
Harington has spoken about how his engagement with Leslie made him feel more like a man. "I'm quite an old-fashioned guy, I suppose," he told Entertainment Weekly. "When you get engaged, you're suddenly like, 'Oh my God, I'm grown-up now.'"
The actor also opened up about how he struggled with anxiety and depression during the early days of Game of Thrones. In an interview with Variety, Harington said he started therapy after the first season wrapped. "I had a shaky time in my 20s," he said.
In conclusion, Kit Harington is an English actor who is best known for his role as Jon Snow in the HBO series Game of Thrones. He has also starred in films such as Pompeii and How to Train Your Dragon 2. Harington has been nominated for several awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Drama.
