Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, on the Portuguese island of Madeira, and he is a widely-known footballer from Portugal. Cristiano plays for the Portuguese national team as well as the Italian club Juventus. He is widely considered to be the top footballer of all time.
His mother was a chef, and his father was a gardener and a part-time equipment manager for a local football team. Cristiano's family was not rich, and he used to share a single room with his siblings. The name "Ronaldo" was added to Cristiano's name by his father in honor of earlier American president Ronald Reagan.
Cristiano was talented since he was young, and by the age of 12, he had a successful trial with Sporting Lisbon who signed him as a youth player. At the age of 14, he had to leave school to focus entirely on football. Cristiano would later discover he had a racing heart – a condition that required heart surgery. After heart surgery to stabilize his heart rate, Ronaldo returned to training.
When he was 17, Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance for Sporting Lisbon's first team, scoring twice in a 3-0 win. In 2003, Sporting beat Manchester United 3-1. He signed for Manchester United at the beginning of the next season, and this contract became a record-breaking fee for a teenager in English football. He made his first appearance as a substitute in a 4-0 victory and scored a free-kick as his first goal for the Red Devils.
Even though Ronaldo asked for a transfer in 2006-2007, he continued to play for Machester United and improved his skills of play. In this season, he scored over 20 goals and won the Premier League title. In the next season, he won the Champions League for the first time by scoring 42 goals and setting a new club record. He spent 1 year more at the club from 2008-2009.
Ronaldo later joined Real Madrid, for a record-breaking transfer fee at that time. He ended his entrance season with Real Madrid with 33 goals. In the next season, he became the first Real Madrid player to score more than 40 goals. The next year, he would break his previous records with 60 goals in all competitions. By the year 2013, he scored 69 goals, winning the Ballon d'Or for the first time. In 2018, he left Real Marid having won several trophies and set many records.
In the summer of 2018, Ronaldo was signed by Juventus for a fee of EUR 116m, and this became the highest transfer fee ever paid by an Italian club. He also enjoyed a successful international career, winning the Euro Cup in 2016.
